George Charriez has gained international recognition for his highly detailed oil paintings. Since 2002, his work has appeared in over 40 group exhibitions in the United States, the UK, Switzerland, and Belgium. Born in 1977 in Newburgh, New York, George's family moved to north Georgia in 1986.
Upon completing High School, he attended The Savannah College of Art and Design until transferring to Pratt Institute and relocating to Brooklyn, New York. There he studied Illustration and Communications Design. After schooling, George began working as an Industrial Designer at the design firm Innovations Development Incorporated, or IDI as it was then known. There, George aided and assisted in the creation and design of everything from medical equipment and handheld power tools, to car interiors, products and product packaging.
In 2000, George decided to relocate back to Georgia when in 2001 he began working with a Fine Art Publishing company. It was here over the next 18 years that George was able to hone in and fine tune his painting styles and technique.
Charriez's work is held in public as well as many private collections and has been seen in contemporary art fairs throughout the world. Currently, Mr. Charriez resides in Blairsville, Ga. and is working on private commissions and preparing a body of work for future exhibition.
As an artist, I wish to revitalize the art of storytelling through creating images that invoke a deeper awakening to where society has been, where it is now, and where a new growth potential awaits.
Pyrography translates to "writing with fire" and is the tradition of using heated metal tip or wire to burn or scorch designs onto natural materials such as wood or leather. In my images I use the open flame of a blowtorch on a wooden surface to create images. By utilizing a "blow" torch instead of the traditional heated tips, I feel a deeper creative connection to the natural elements of "Wind" "Earth", and "Fire".
